Nancy Ostrovsky
Nancy is a renowned artist known for her line drawings, studio work and “Live Painting” in performance. She is known for her love of music and the unique ability to capture it in paint. She posts frequently on FaceBook and samples of live painting are on her website and YouTube. She says, “There is a beauty and honesty in wrestling and jazz that I try to capture. The common denominator is human beings.”
Nancy was born in North Africa and spent her childhood in Taiwaan, the Philippines, Bangkok and Bangladesh. She began painting at eight, and had her first solo exhibition at eighteen. Nancy has a Black Belt in Zen Sword, was a Yoga practitioner for many years, and is a daily swimmer.

WGBH, Boston; HBO, NYC; Young Audiences, NYC; Very Special Arts, Wash D.C.; Town Hall of Huntingon, LI; Northeastern University; the former Green Street Grille in Cambridge, Ma was known for it collection of 40 paintings on permanent display; and extensive personal collections.

She has been doing this for 36 years and is considered one of the pioneers of this art form. Her “Paintings to Music” are done “live” while Nancy is on stage with the musicians as they play. Nancy is a master at improvising with paint; she uses the immediacy of the musicians, the music and the environment to record the performance.
She has worked with musicians of the highest caliber including:
Fred Hopkins, (solo bass), David Murray Trio, Roswell Rudd, Syd Smart, Leonard Brown, Erica Lindsay, Thurman Barker, Hugh Brodie, Lisa Thorson, Michael Bisio, Patrick Cress, and numerous others.
Venues have included:
Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, The International Festival of Media Art and Media Future in Hamburg Germany, the Eastman School of Music, Festival of Women Improvisers, Northeastern University, the Knitting Factory, Massachusetts College of Art, United States, WGBH Boston, the Wang Center in Boston as a featured artist with Express Yourself, the Information Agency in Hamburg Germany.
In July of 2012 Nancy will paint live at “Jazz at Lincoln Center” in New York City.
